Susan Rasky
Susan Rasky, a senior lecturer at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, joined the faculty in 1991 to direct the Journalism School’s political and government reporting program. She established and supervises the California News Service, which gives students experience covering government and politics for news organizations throughout the country.
Rasky began her reporting career in Washington, D.C., covering economic policy for the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. and later reported for Reuters from Capitol Hill and the White House. She was the congressional correspondent for The New York Times, where she and colleague David Rosenbaum shared the 1990 George Polk Award for National Reporting for their reporting on the federal budget.
A featured columnist at the California Journal and a contributing columnist at the Sacramento Bee through the 1990s, Rasky continues to write and to produce radio commentary for national audiences. Her current reporting projects include an examination of ethnic group voting patterns and participation, particularly in congressional races, and a comparison of methods, accuracy and impact of congressional election forecasts (with Professor Bruce Cain.) Rasky is a member of the campus advisory board for UC Berkeley’s Washington Program and a frequent collaborator with New America Media in training ethnic media journalists to improve coverage of state, local and federal government.
She received a BA in history from UC Berkeley and a MSc in economic history from the London School of Economics.
